[ Transylvania | 트란실바니아 ]
Historical nomination collectively referred to as northwestern Romania.
The Russian Federation to the north, Hungary to the west, Yugoslavia to the southwest, the East Carpathia Mountains to the east, and the South Carpathia Mountains to the south form natural boundaries.
In a narrow sense, it refers to the Transylvanian land surrounded by these two mountains and the Western Carpathian Mountains, and in a broad sense to the Banat region leading to the Donau River in the southwest.
It is divided into 16 administrative prefectures, with about 1.5 million Hungarians living in addition to Romanians.
The topography is the highest in the southern Pagarashi Mountains, with a flat Transylvanian land to the north, and the west with plains that follow the Hungarian plains.
The Old, Muresh and Somesh rivers, which originate from the East Carpathia Mountains, flow south and west.
The largest central city is Cluj, Braschov is the southeastern, southwest, Timishoa, and Oradea is the western cultural and industrial center.
In addition to agriculture with wheat and corn as the main crops and herding in the plateau, forestry is also active.
Since ancient times, gold mines in western mountains have been famous, and coal and iron ore has been produced in the south, and metallurgical and steel industries have developed using them.
Around 1000 BC, there was a Dakian state in the region, but it was conquered by Rome in 106 BC, and during the Middle Ages, a mix of Slavic and Mazar (Hungarian) immigrants from the north and native peoples were formed.
In modern times, it was part of the Hungarian Empire of Austria, but as a result of World War I and World War II, the present border was established.

루마니아 북서부 지방을 총칭하는 역사적 지명.
북쪽은 러시아연방, 서쪽은 헝가리, 남서쪽은 유고슬라비아와 접하고, 동쪽은 동(東)카르파티아 산맥, 남쪽은 남(南)카르파티아 산맥이 자연의 경계를 이루고 있다.
좁은 의미로는 이 두 산맥과 서(西)카르파티아(아푸세니) 산맥으로 둘러싸인 트란실바니아 대지를 가리키며, 넓은 뜻으로는 남서부의 도나우강에 이르는 바나트 지방까지 포함한다.
행정상 16개의 현으로 나누어지며, 루마니아인 외에 약 150만의 헝가리인이 산다.
지형은 남부의 파가라시 산맥이 가장 높고, 그 북쪽에는 평탄한 트란실바니아 대지가 펼쳐지며, 서부는 헝가리 평원에 이어지는 평원으로 되어 있다.
동카르파티아 산맥에서 발원하는 올트강·무레슈강·소메슈강이 남쪽과 서쪽으로 흐른다.
최대 중심도시는 클루지이며, 브라쇼브는 남동부, 티미쇼아라는 남서부, 오라데아는 서부의 문화·산업의 중심지이다.
밀·옥수수를 주요 작물로 하는 농업과 고원지대의 목축 외에 임업도 활발하다.
예로부터 서부산지의 금광이 유명하며, 남부에서는 석탄·철광석이 산출되어, 이것을 이용하는 야금(冶金)·제철공업이 발달해 있다.
BC 1,000년경 이 지방에는 다키아인의 국가가 있었으나 106년 로마에 정복당하고, 중세에는 북방에서 이주해 온 슬라브인·마자르(헝가리)인과 원주민과의 혼혈이 이루어졌다.
근세에는 오스트리아 헝가리 제국의 일부였으나 제1·2차 세계대전 결과 지금의 국경이 정해졌다.
